- How do I tune?
Just open the app and play a note.
The orb drifts left when you're flat and right when you're sharp.
When you're within five cents of the note, the orb settles into the ring, turns sage green, and you'll feel a small buzz — you're in tune.
- What does the Tunings button do?
It locks Tun3r to the strings of your instrument.
In chromatic mode, a very flat low E might read as a different note entirely — in instrument mode, Tun3r knows you're aiming for E and tells you exactly how far off you are.
Tunings are included for guitar (Standard, Drop D, DADGAD, open tunings and more), bass, banjo, mandolin, violin, viola, cello, double bass, and ukulele.

- Can I change the reference pitch?
Yes — tap the A 440 button to cycle through 440, 442, 432, and 415 Hz. Every note and tuning re-tunes itself to the new reference instantly.
- Tun3r isn't hearing my instrument. What should I do?
Get the phone within a couple feet of your instrument and reduce background noise — fans, traffic, and conversation can mask quiet notes.
Tun3r always listens through your phone's built-in microphone, even with headphones plugged in. That's intentional: the built-in mic gives the cleanest signal for pitch detection.
- Why does Tun3r need the microphone?
Only to hear your instrument.
Audio is analyzed on your device in real time and is never recorded, stored, or sent anywhere.
- Why does my screen stay on?
While Tun3r is listening, it keeps your screen awake so it doesn't go dark mid-tuning on a music stand. Normal sleep behavior resumes as soon as you leave the app.

Tun3r requires an iPhone running iOS 17.0 or later.
